Zenhub began in 2014 as a project management service tightly integrated with GitHub and has broadened its feature set to serve non-technical teams such as marketing, product and customer teams. Until recently, all users needed GitHub accounts to use Zenhub; the company today launched Zenhub Issues to let non-technical users create and track issues without a GitHub license. The company says it is not abandoning GitHub — developers can still connect to GitHub — but it is moving away from relying on GitHub as the sole platform. With Zenhub Issues in place, the product can more easily support other platforms such as GitLab. Zenhub is Vancouver, Canada–based and will use new capital to make critical hires to support the expanded platform. The company previously raised a $4.7 million seed in 2021 after years of bootstrapping. ZenHub provides a project management layer tightly integrated with GitHub that helps development teams plan and track work. The company has added automation features—most recently automated sprint planning—that allocate story points and generate prioritized sprint backlogs, with optional rollover of unfinished items. ZenHub earlier introduced tools to improve developer handoffs in GitHub and plans to build additional automation for software estimation and story-point allocation. The product aims to reduce time spent on Agile ceremonies so teams can focus on development. ZenHub launched its service in 2014 and operated as a bootstrapped business until this round. The company said customer feedback during the pandemic—remote work and stretched engineering resources—drove demand for faster automation. ZenHub is based in Vancouver, Canada.
