Zentrela is a Hamilton, Canada-based neurotech startup advancing understanding of the brain effects of recreational cannabis. It has developed a proprietary EEG test to detect cannabis impairment and combines AI algorithms with neuroscience to decode electrical brain activity. The company is creating a scientific database of cannabis product effects to support commercialization and research. Led by CEO and founder Israel Gasperin, Zentrela plans to use the new funds to further commercialize its EEG test and expand its database. In 2019 the company raised $1.2M from the Ontario Brain Institute and various government agencies to fund prototype development and clinical trials. It completed an $850K seed funding round led by Jornic Ventures.
