Zerone has developed Bharat ZupPOS, a cloud-based, ultra-low-cost solution that turns a smartphone into a payment terminal, enabling merchants to accept credit cards, debit cards and UPI apps such as BHIM without additional hardware. The company plans to use the new funding to strengthen its platform and provide better services to customers. Zerone says it serves more than 30,000 merchants across India. Leadership includes founder and CEO Jaijit Bhattacharya, an ex-KPMG senior partner. The startup highlights a large market opportunity: roughly 80 million people require digital payment acceptance terminals while only about 4 million merchants currently have hardware POS machines. Financially, Zerone raised $1.3 million (Rs 9.5 crore) in this pre-Series A round to support growth and product development.
