ZeroStack builds a self-service, scale-out private cloud platform that combines on-premises hyper-converged infrastructure with a web portal for management and operations. Its ZeroStack Cloud Platform includes complete health monitoring and predictive analytics and aims to let customers build a cloud in minutes with no experience needed. The platform provides governance and visibility across sites, business units and projects, and controls sensitive data via a self-healing architecture hosted on-site. It also offers curated updates through automated patching and upgrades. The company was founded by Kiran Bondalapati and Ajay Gulati, who previously worked at Bromium and VMware respectively. ZeroStack plans to use the new funding to continue expanding operations and increasing adoption of its platform. ZeroStack offers a private-cloud solution that pairs proprietary hardware with a cloud-hosted administrative console to simplify private-cloud deployments. It targets mid-market companies with 50–1,000 employees that lack large IT staffs, positioning itself as an alternative to public cloud and high-end vendors like VMware, OpenStack and Microsoft. Installation requires racking ZeroStack servers onsite and managing virtual machines via the cloud console; ZeroStack seeds portals with sample VMs but customers must upload their own. The product entered beta in June, the company has about 20 employees and roughly 10 customers, and it planned a public push at VMworld. CEO Ajay Gulati claims the platform can cut time, personnel and cost by 40–60% versus traditional setups. A limitation is that the solution requires use of ZeroStack hardware and software, which may deter customers with existing infrastructure investments.
