Zerund
House No 10, Sewali Path, Guwahati, Assam, 781038, India
Overview
Zerund manufactures high-grade, lightweight bricks that incorporate roughly 70% waste inputs including plastic and fly ash; the company uses a three-process machine that shreds waste plastics into microbeads for the brick mixture. Its bricks (made of cement, fly ash, organic chemicals and plastic waste) are 45% lighter and about 15% cheaper than industry standard, and are described as weather-proof, earthquake- and fire-resistant, pest-defiant with greater tensile strength. Zerund operates manufacturing plants in Guwahati and Pathsala, and currently sells mainly across Northeast India and Bengal with reported monthly revenue of more than Rs 1 crore. Existing customers cited include NRL township, Starbucks, PMAY projects and the Assam secretariat. The company’s current annual production capacity exceeds 25 lakh bricks and it plans to expand capacity and distribution beyond Assam, starting sales in Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore in Q3 2022-23. Management has set production targets for 2026—stating plans to boost annual production to 2.3 crore bricks and also reporting an ambition that 23 crore bricks will be sold annually by 2026—while using new funding to increase capacity and expand sales.
