Overview
Founded in 2005, Zhangmen began as an after-school classroom training provider and shifted to online courses in 2014. Its core product is the Zhangmen Yiduiyi app, which provides one-on-one tutoring across school subjects from English to math for K–12 students. The app has accumulated more than 40 million users across over 600 cities in China. Zhangmen competes in a crowded Chinese online education market alongside firms such as Yuanfudao, Zuoyebang, and Leleketang. The COVID-19 pandemic boosted demand for its online offerings after schools and training agencies were shut down for more than eight months. Most recently the company secured a large new financing round, reflecting continued investor interest in the sector. Zhangmen is a China-based K-12 personalized online tutoring company operating an online platform for personalized instruction. The company completed a $120 million Series D round of financing. The round was invested by an affiliate of private equity firm Warburg Pincus and by Genesis Capital. Genesis Capital is described in the article as a Chinese growth capital fund focused on growth-stage Internet companies. The article does not disclose revenue, user metrics, past rounds, or founding-year information.
