Overview
Founded in 2018, ZhiTai Biotech focuses on recombinant protein and peptide drugs aimed at chronic metabolic disorders. Its lead asset, the once-monthly injectable GLP-1 receptor agonist Zoweiglutide (ZT002), produced up to 13.8% weight loss at week 24 in Phase II trials and began a Phase III obesity study in January 2026. Additional pipeline candidates include the oral GLP-1 agonist tablet ZT006 (Phase II for weight loss), the GLP-1/FGF21 dual agonist ZT003 (Phase I for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis), and the semaglutide biosimilar ZT001 being co-developed with Tonghua Dongbao and Aimeike. The firm has built proprietary long-acting peptide, oral delivery, protein refolding and fusion protein platforms, notably its QLLong fatty-acid modification technology that extends drug half-life. A commercial production base received approval in late 2025, giving ZhiTai end-to-end capabilities from R&D through manufacturing. The founding team largely hails from Novo Nordisk, led by CEO Dr. Zhang Xujia. Backed by more than RMB 500 million in fresh capital, the company is positioned to advance late-stage trials and prepare for commercialization.
