Overview
ZielBio uses a proprietary drug-discovery platform called Zielfind™ that combines functional high-throughput screening with large-content data analytics to identify high-value targets. Its lead candidate, ZB131, is a proprietary humanized monoclonal antibody directed against cell surface plectin (CSP), which is highly expressed on the plasma membrane of multiple cancer types including ovarian, pancreatic, lung, and colorectal. Preclinical laboratory and animal research reportedly show ZB131 has high affinity for CSP and can induce growth arrest and necrosis of targeted tumor cells. The company says ZB131 has demonstrated potentially superior immune activation compared with current checkpoint inhibitors and greater direct tumor cell killing than EGFR inhibitors. The recent financing will enable further research to prioritize cancer applications, validate additional targets, and initiate a planned phase 1 clinical trial with ZB131. ZielBio positions itself to advance its pipeline of therapies and targets toward clinical development.
