ZINK develops Zero Ink Printing Technology and proprietary ZINK Paper that enable full-color printing without ink cartridges or ribbons. Heat from a ZINK-enabled device activates color-forming chemistry within the paper to produce all colors. The company holds an IP portfolio of over 180 patents and patents pending. Its technology already powers a limited range of home photo printers, digital cameras with built-in printers, and logging printers. Partners include Dell and Polaroid, and ZINK aims to popularize ink-free printing and ruffle some established feathers in the global printing industry. Founded in 2005, ZINK's R&D labs and headquarters are in Bedford, Massachusetts, and it operates a manufacturing plant in Whitsett, North Carolina.
