ShopSocially has launched a social shopping platform that lets retailers embed a suite of social apps into their websites, marketing campaigns, or Facebook pages. The product set includes share-a-purchase and promotion apps, full social shopping communities, rule-based targeting, SEO optimization, analytics and reporting. The company says it has worked with several hundred customers, including Sears, The Children’s Place, Sport Chalet, CafePress, Ritz and Zales. Aggregated customer data reportedly shows up to a 3x increase in sales from email promotions, an average 12% lift in site conversion from social sharing, 2–5% of site traffic converted into Facebook fans, and a 95% average increase in onsite and fan‑page engagement for social shopping communities; one client (Ritz) saw a 38.8% conversion increase. ShopSocially was co-founded by Rawat and Samir Palnitkar and says it has kept operations lean. CEO Rawat says the company is on track to profitability this year. ShopSocially operates a social-commerce site where friends exchange shopping recommendations and discover products. The service taps users' social graphs on Twitter and Facebook to surface recommendations and interactions. The company uses the tagline “where friends help friends shop.” Founded in late 2009 by Jai Rawat and Samir Palnitkar, the startup launched publicly and within a few months users created more than 10,000 product recommendations. In terms of financing, ShopSocially announced a $1.1 million Series A to support its growth. The round signals early investor confidence as the company scales its social recommendation product.
