Zocere
801 University Blvd SE Ste 100, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87106, United States
Overview
Zocere is developing a ‘‘brain protecting’’ injectable drug based on a STEP protein, a cell-permeable recombinant peptide that has shown promise when administered after ischemic stroke. The candidate can be used as a standalone treatment immediately after stroke symptoms (for example, in an ambulance) or in combination with other stroke therapies, and also shows potential for treating other brain trauma including concussion. The drug was discovered by Dr. Surojit Paul at the University of New Mexico and was funded by NIH grants; Zocere holds exclusive, global rights to the patent-pending technology. The company is headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico and is led by pharmaceutical industry executives with drug commercialization experience. Financially, Zocere has raised $0.5 million from angel investors and a private equity fund and is pursuing about $1.5 million in exchange for equity. Management estimates roughly $5 million will be needed to collect the data required to file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application.
