Overview
Zowie is an AI-powered chatbot built specifically for eCommerce teams to drive sales through customer support. Its platform automates roughly 70% of common inquiries such as order status, shipping changes, and subscription management while enabling agents to provide personalized care and product recommendations. Zowie integrates with eCommerce tools including Shopify, Recharge and Klaviyo and offers an open API to quickly set up automations like parcel tracking and subscription management. Founded in 2019, the company operates a commercial office in New York with development offices across Poland. It raised a $14M Series A, bringing total funding to $20M. Zowie plans to use the funds to extend automation to new channels including email and to expand internationally by hiring additional sales staff for its go-to-market team in the United States. Zowie offers Zowie X1, a no-code, AI-driven chatbot that automates repetitive e-commerce customer service tasks and generates a brand- or product-specific knowledge base. The founders, Maja Schaefer and Matt Ciolek, started the company in 2019 after building chatbots for clients and seeing implementation pain points with existing solutions. The company reports revenue tripled between 2020 and 2021 and works with about 100 customers, including Giesswein. Zowie says its chatbots can handle as much as 50% of support tickets in some cases, free up about two hours per agent per day, and customers see up to 45% more sales on average. The team has 36 employees and plans to double headcount this year; the funding will be used for product development, marketing, sales and growth of the commercial team across North America. Product roadmap items include expanding automation across channels (web, email, WhatsApp) and adding sales-side features to better navigate the customer journey. Zowie (formerly Chatbotize) offers a self-learning AI system that analyses historical and live conversations to generate ready-to-use chat and email automations. Its platform automates roughly 50 million engagements per month and has secured high-profile retail clients including Aviva, Avon, L'Oreal, and Yves Rocher. The startup recorded an ARR of $500K within about a year and a half without external funding and has seen average monthly growth of 12% since January. Demand increased during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the Polish government using Zowie's chatbot to advise affected citizens. Zowie says the new capital will be used to grow the brand in English-speaking markets and to further develop the product's technology. The company transitioned from a services provider to a product company and targets e-commerce customers who benefit from automating repeatable support questions.
