Overview

Founded in 2020 by researchers from Stockholm’s KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Swedish deep-tech startup Zparq is re-engineering marine propulsion with its patented Z10 platform of direct-drive electric motors. The motors are up to ten times smaller than comparable alternatives for the same power output, contain no gears or seals, and use proprietary cooling that can be powered by onboard solar systems. Their lightweight, modular design cuts raw-material consumption and CO₂ emissions during production while integrating advanced battery management, safety, and theft-prevention features. The technology targets a broad spectrum of leisure, commercial, and rescue vessels, and is already being tested through multiple pilot projects with OEMs and boat builders. Zparq’s vision is to deliver clean, quiet, and reliable propulsion that supports circularity across the product life cycle. With fresh EU capital in hand, the company plans to finish development of the Z10 platform, scale industrial manufacturing, and launch commercially in 2025. The recent €5.5 million raise is the company’s most significant disclosed financing to date and will fund both product completion and global market expansion.
