Overview
Zume, launched in 2015, builds robotics, AI, automation and mobile kitchen technologies to predict food trends and prepare and deliver freshly cooked foods. The company owns a patent for delivery trucks that can cook while en route. Earlier this year Zume reorganized under a larger umbrella, making Zume Pizza a subsidiary as it seeks to license its technology to restaurants and food trucks. CEO Alex Garden said the recently closed financing will support growth and hiring. Financially, Zume has closed a large new funding tranche and previously raised about $70 million in prior financings. Reporting around the valuation and additional capital has varied in separate accounts. Zume operates a robotic pizza service that automates tasks such as spreading sauce and loading ovens. The company is already serving parts of the Bay Area and demonstrated its truck at Disrupt SF. Cofounders and co-CEOs Julia Collins and Alex Garden confirmed a new financing to support hiring and market growth. Zume says it aims to expand coverage to the entire Bay by the end of next year. The founders position pizza as an initial use case while pursuing a broader "Amazon of Food" automation strategy. The startup recently closed a large funding tranche to accelerate those plans.
