ZWI Therapeutics, Inc.
210 BROADWAY, SUITE 201, CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, 02139, UNITED STATES
Overview
ZWI Therapeutics develops protein therapeutics using a proprietary, patented polymer called polycarboxybetaine to create protein‑polymer conjugates intended as alternatives to PEG‑conjugated drugs. In preclinical animal models, its polycarboxybetaine conjugates have shown consistently low or no immunogenicity and improved pharmacokinetics versus PEG conjugates, which the company expects will translate to enhanced clinical durability and safety. The platform is also applicable to nanoparticles and hydrogels, with hydrogels highlighted for cellular therapy use. ZWI’s lead candidate, ZWI‑001 (an uricase‑polycarboxybetaine conjugate), has demonstrated preclinical proof of concept for treating hyperuricemia in severe gout and the company is progressing toward filing an IND after receiving FDA INTERACT guidance on CMC, nonclinical, and clinical plans. ZWI intends to out‑license its technology to pharmaceutical partners for specific development programs. The company announced board additions and a new CEO concurrent with the financing.
