Zytoprotec is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing drugs that exploit active cytoprotection. Its most advanced product, PD-protec, is a next-generation peritoneal dialysis solution that uses a patent-protected peptide to actively protect abdominal cells. PD-protec completed a Phase I/II trial in 2012 and Zytoprotec planned to commence a Phase II trial in early 2013. The company has established a research platform to identify cytoprotective compounds and is pursuing other treatments based on the same approach. Since its inception in 2007 the company had raised €6.7M from founders, corporate, private and institutional investors and Austrian public agencies prior to the new funding. Zytoprotec is based in Vienna, Austria.
