Overview
The Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) is the lead agency for fostering world-class scientific research and talent for a vibrant knowledge-based and innovation-driven Singapore. A*STAR oversees 18 biomedical sciences and physical sciences and engineering research entities, located in Biopolis and Fusionopolis as well as their immediate vicinity. A*STAR supports Singapore's key economic clusters by providing intellectual, human and industrial capital to its partners in industry. It also supports extramural research in the universities, hospitals, research centres, and with other local and international partners.

Nalagenetics develops an end-to-end genetic testing software and services platform, anchored by its proprietary Clinical Decision Support (CDS) portal that processes sequencing and genotyping data and produces guideline-compliant reports. CDS includes modules for pre-test triage, data analysis, reporting, dashboards, and post-test integration for healthcare systems. The company has developed clinical modules for pharmacogenomics, nutrigenomics, and breast cancer risk prediction and plans to build polygenic risk score modules for complex diseases. Nalagenetics was founded in April 2016 out of A*STAR’s Genome Institute of Singapore Innovation Fellow program and is led by CEO Levana Sani. It is active in Indonesia and Singapore, has signed service agreements with over 40 hospital and clinic partners, and is launching services from a new lab location in Singapore. The company raised US$12.6M in a Series A and intends to use proceeds to advance CDS (including whole-genome analysis capabilities), expand provider integrations, and hire bioinformatics, software engineering, and genetics staff.
