Oppex provides an online tool for companies to find cross-border sales opportunities in public bidding contests. Launched in 2014 by CEO Ville Heinonen, the Helsinki-based service aggregates bidding opportunities across Europe and worldwide. Customers range from small export companies to Fortune 500 corporations. Popular searches on the platform include goods and services related to healthcare, security and construction industries. In 2015 Oppex raised $2.3m in venture capital funding to accelerate its growth. Backers included Open Ocean Capital and Initial Capital. Oppex operates a search engine that aggregates and machine-translates public-sector tenders into English to open cross-border sales opportunities. The company says its database contains 3.5 million public-sector tenders, which it claims is the world’s largest source of tenders. Its coverage spans a wide array of industries and it pulls data from government sites and other providers. Oppex emphasizes user experience and positions itself against mostly local competitors as well as global players like Tendertiger and dgMarket. The search engine is free for individual business users, and the company is piloting a subscription-based premium plan with more than 500 paying users. The service launched officially from Helsinki to help startups, SMEs and enterprises find and win public contracts globally.
