GRYD Energy has developed a UK-first subscription model that lets developers and homeowners install solar without paying upfront for the hardware. The company funds and maintains a home’s solar hardware for the 25-year life of the system and charges a fixed monthly subscription (averaging about £65 per month for a four-bed home) that includes maintenance and insurance. GRYD says its model saves developers up to £10,000 in hardware costs per home and has completed a three-home pilot in Cornwall that is testing its software. The business has signed an energy export deal with renewable supplier Good Energy to secure an important revenue stream. GRYD plans national expansion, expects to deploy to hundreds of homes in 2025, and aims to scale its service to 30,000 new-build homes over the next three years. It is initially focused on new homes and will consider retrofit expansion while adding flexibility services to increase customer savings by charging and discharging stored energy based on dynamic price signals.
