Open Ledger, founded earlier this year by Pryce Adade-Yebesi and Ashtyn Bell, develops accounting software that gamifies tax filing. Its flagship product, PokéTax, reimagines tax forms as battles against ‘Tax Trainers’ representing income, deductions, and credits. As users answer questions, an AI assistant organizes their responses and awards badges for discovering deductions, then routes them to the IRS Direct File site to submit their return. The product is open source and built on the Pokémon Showdown game engine, emphasizing accessibility and community contributions. By injecting game mechanics into an otherwise tedious process, the company aims to make financial tasks more engaging and less stressful. Open Ledger has secured $3 million in funding to support further development and rollout of PokéTax and future finance-focused games and tools. No revenue or user figures have been disclosed.
