  Sketchfab operates a web platform and marketplace for 3D files, letting creators upload, browse, search and sell 3D content. The site hosts over 300,000 files, and the company offers free base tools plus paid premium tools for creators. Future monetization plans include taking a cut of marketplace transactions and selling featured/sponsored placement on the site. Sketchfab already delivers experiences for major VR headsets (including Oculus, GearVR and Cardboard via Chromium) and highlights WebGL and emerging WebVR support. With new funding, the company plans to invest more heavily in VR and AR development. CEO Alban Denoyel emphasized WebGL as the browser standard and pointed to WebVR as the next step for VR/AR integration. Sketchfab operates an embeddable 3D object browser that lets designers and tinkerers upload and share 3D scans and models. The service positions itself as a simple way to showcase 3D renders and fan art, analogous to YouTube for video or Flickr for photos. Users can follow and contact 3D artists, request copies of models, and hire 3D modelers through the site. CEO Alban Denoyel said, “We only do one thing, to display 3D files in the browser, but we do it well and fast.” Sketchfab reported an average of 300 object files uploaded per day and a running total of 70,000 3D files on the platform. To support growth, the company raised $2 million from Balderton, Partech and angel investor David Cohen.
