MachineShop builds middleware — APIs and dedicated service exchanges — to connect disparate devices and convert raw IoT data into focused, actionable information. The company authenticates and manages data transactions and routes data streams to specific enterprise applications. Founded by Michael Campbell and Greg Jones two years ago, MachineShop is coming out of stealth to commercialize that platform. It positions itself as a services-based alternative to monolithic middleware, drawing an explicit comparison to Mulesoft. The startup intends to move beyond enterprise/B2B customers and address consumer-market opportunities in the future. MachineShop also brings customers onto its cap table to learn from real-world transactions and evolve the product rapidly.
