  • Mash Makes

    Led · Equity · Apr 2019

MASH Makes focuses on producing biochar and developing a biofuel. In 2023 the company described the year as one of growth and learning. It secured a $12.5M Series A in 2023. During the year it progressed in producing biochar at scale. It also made strides in validating its biofuel. The company framed these achievements as a setup for continued progress into 2024. Mash Energy produces biofuel from agricultural waste, currently sourcing feedstock from the by-product of nut processing in Tanzania and India. The company is working with ferry operator DFDS to develop a commercially viable alternative shipping fuel to replace fossil fuels. Part of the collaboration includes testing Mash Energy’s biofuel on a ferry owned by DFDS to verify engine compatibility, quality, and price. DFDS will invest DKK 10 million in three stages for a combined 24% ownership share in Mash Energy. The partnership is intended to help Mash scale production to commercially viable volumes and identify other waste products that can serve as feedstock. The investment also aligns with DFDS’s CSR goals to reduce its ferries’ carbon footprint and improve air quality.
