Overview
Dry Creek Ventures was founded in 2007 to fund and mentor young companies that are innovators in producing clean energy, clean food and clean water. DCV seeks out early-stage growth companies founded by energetic entrepreneurs. Typically, these companies have exhausted friends and family capital, but do not yet have the operational infrastructure, financial performance, or valuation to attract mainstream venture capital funds. In addition to equity capital, they contribute extensive operational and finance experience, and the willingness to contribute significant time and effort to helping young companies develop and grow. They look for partnerships, not simply investments. They understand that entrepreneurs are motivated principally by a passion for their products. But they also believe that teams can succeed where individuals cannot. By providing equity capital, a commitment to partnership, decades of business experience, and extensive contacts, DCV is uniquely positioned to help entrepreneurs grow their businesses.

Lucid provides BuildingOS, a cloud-based software platform that connects, analyzes, and manages disparate commercial building technologies. The solution currently integrates more than 160 hardware and software building technologies and is used by operations, finance, and sustainability professionals to optimize energy costs, comfort, and productivity. The company will use the Series B proceeds to expand its software capabilities and its suite of enterprise applications, including new tools for Finance, Building Operations, and Facilities teams and for management of multi-tenant real estate. Lucid added GE Ventures to its Series B investors, bringing the round to $14.2M, with additional investors including Formation 8, Zetta Venture Partners, and Autodesk. The company is led by CEO Vladi Shunturov, with Shelly Davenport (VP Worldwide Sales), Loreal Lynch (VP of Marketing), Nate Nilles (VP of Business Development), Aaron DeYonker (VP of Product), and Sitar Mody (Senior Director of Engagement Programs). Lucid has developed BuildingOS, an “operating system” for buildings that acts as a central information hub for systems, meters, and devices. The platform connects with over 150 metering and building systems, including building automation, submeters, lighting and plug load controls, on-site generation, demand response, and electric and gas utilities. It offers instant integration for supported vendors’ Internet-connected hardware and provides real-time analytics. The company serves nearly 400 customers across tech, finance, healthcare, government, and education. Lucid employs 40 people and intends to use its latest funding to expand the capabilities of its platform. The company was founded in 2004. Lucid Design Group develops hosted software that provides real-time energy monitoring and web-based displays for commercial buildings. Its core product, Building Dashboard, is in its third generation and offers real-time feedback on building resource use. In 2009 the company introduced Building Dashboard Starter, a low-cost, entry-level solution that monitors electricity for two buildings and includes a competition module and educational features while working with nearly all existing electrical and metering systems. That year Lucid grew its customer base, launched a reseller program to broaden markets and participated in several projects that gained nationwide recognition. Financially, the company completed a $1.5M Series A funding round in January 2010. The funding was positioned as support for the company’s growth and product rollout efforts.
