Brano Therapeutics is developing small-molecule therapies that target a metabolic abnormality implicated in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Its research is based on discoveries by Duke-NUS scientists and collaborators such as the University of Cincinnati, which suggest impaired nutrient processing in the heart contributes to disease progression. Preclinical studies reportedly show a compound can help restore metabolic regulation, reduce heart stiffness, and improve function. The company has a licensing agreement with Duke-NUS to advance these discoveries toward clinical application. Brano plans to develop new compounds and move its lead therapies into clinical trials by 2029. Financially, the company completed a $6.8 million seed round to fund these development activities.
