OPTITHERA's core product is the first genomic test that predicts risk of diabetic complications using a polygenic risk score (PRS) computed from a saliva sample and clinical factors (gender, age of onset, ethnicity). The PRS combines nearly 600 genomic variants identified from more than one million people and was developed using clinical and genetic data from participants in the ADVANCE trial across 17 countries. ADVANCE data informed the model and showed that combined intensive blood pressure and glucose control decreased cardiovascular death by 24%, and identified a high-risk group in which mortality fell by 47%. To commercialize the PRS, OPTITHERA has partnered with ELNA Medical Group and Génome Québec under Genome Canada's GAPP program and received investment to run real-world clinical validation. The company plans a real-life clinical study of more than 2,500 participants and aims to obtain ISO 13485 certification to support commercialization and reimbursement. OPTITHERA intends to reach the Canadian market within 18 months and pursue reimbursement by Canadian health providers before entering the U.S. market in the second year.
