Our Place is a direct-to-consumer retailer focused on high-end cookware, dinnerware and glassware sold to socially conscious consumers. The company’s initial products are manufactured in China, with glassware produced in Thailand, and it plans future collections sourced from artisans in emerging markets (the next collection is sourced from Oaxaca). Founders Amir Tehrani and Shiza Shahid, joined by COO and co-founder Zach Rosner, combine cookware industry experience with a social mission to educate consumers about the cultural context of products. The founders say the DTC model offers financial advantages in a large, incumbent cookware and dinnerware market projected at $12.7 billion by 2021. Amir Tehrani’s family background in TableTops Unlimited informed the company’s supply capabilities and attracted investor interest. To date the company has raised early capital and is working to help artisans scale production while preserving artisanal methods.
