WalkSafe is a free-to-download personal safety app that overlays regularly updated official police crime statistics on a live map so users can avoid recent crime hotspots. Its core features include HomeSafe, Tap Safe (used over 20,000 times in the last six months), and a dead switch that shares the user’s last known location if a phone is deactivated. The app has been downloaded by over half a million people, reflecting rapid user growth amid rising safety concerns for people walking at night. WalkSafe was founded by Emma Kay, who built the product inspired by personal experiences and family policing background. The company is preparing a new version of the app and plans to scale user acquisition and product improvements with support from its new investor.
