  Simple Energy provides utility companies with a digital marketing software-as-a-service platform designed to engage customers and drive energy savings. The platform normalizes customers' energy usage and lets participants compare consumption with friends, neighbors and colleagues. Customers can earn points, rewards, and gift cards by saving energy. The company is led by CEO and co-founder Yoav Lurie and is based in Boulder, CO. Simple Energy closed a $6M Series B in January 2014 and said it will use the funds to develop new products due out in 2014 and to expand its national reach. Simple Energy offers an interactive, social gaming platform for utilities to engage customers in energy-saving behavior. The company recently teamed up with San Diego Gas & Electric to run an energy-saving contest that rewards top savers with prizes such as an Apple iPad and local retail gift cards. The contest uses smart meter data to measure year-over-year kWh consumption of participants over a three-month period. Simple Energy raised $900,000 in seed funding from a group of angel investors, including David Calone and Dean Mathew. The company plans to use the funding to further develop its product, add enhanced features and integration, and hire additional programmers. Simple Energy is a 2011 Boulder TechStars graduate.
