Socialspiel Entertainment GmbH is a Vienna-based game development studio founded in 2010 by industry veterans from Rockstar Games and Deep Silver. The studio focuses on high-production-value, character-driven free-to-play mobile and browser titles. Its track record includes Tight Lines Fishing, winner of the Social Game of the Year at the 2011 German Game Developer Awards. Socialspiel is advised by Agnitio Capital. As part of a strategic partnership with Nexon, the company is receiving a cash equity investment in exchange for a minority stake and a board nomination. The partnership grants Nexon exclusive worldwide publishing rights for Socialspiel’s upcoming mobile and tablet titles, including an untitled action RPG slated for spring 2015. Socialspiel is an Austrian social games studio that develops free-to-play social, mobile, and tablet games, and also partners with brands to co-develop titles. The company operates as a full-stack production studio handling pre-production through live operations, including live analytics and economy tuning. It pursues a hybrid business model of self-publishing its own IP while mitigating risk by co-developing with established IP owners and brands. Partners include Deutsche Telekom, Les Editions Albert René, Sproing, SEE Games, and agencies/brands such as Bartle Bogle Hegarty and Chupa Chups. Socialspiel became cash-flow positive in 2012 and was on track to make a profit in 2013. The company plans to use recent funding to grow its development headcount to 15–20 by spring 2014 and to relaunch its Tight Lines Fishing title with a major co-development partner later in 2014.
