Lypid develops PhytoFat™, vegan fats designed to mimic the texture, mouthfeel, transfer of flavor, and cooking behavior of animal fats using a proprietary formula and processing method. Its PhytoFat™ contains no artificial additives, no hydrogenation, and zero trans fats. The company positions PhytoFat™ as an alternative to current plant-based protein ingredients that rely heavily on palm oil and coconut oil. Lypid is co-founded by Jen-Yu Huang and Michelle Lee and is based in San Francisco. The company raised $4M in seed funding and plans to use the proceeds to bring PhytoFat™ to market in 2022. After market entry it intends to expand further in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
