  • BeliMobilGue

    Led · Equity · Aug 2019

BeliMobilGue is an Indonesia-based online marketplace that lets customers sell their cars to a network of over 1,000 certified buyers across the country. The platform offers car inspection and transaction services designed to provide a safe, convenient, and competitive selling process. BMG was set up in April 2017 as a joint venture between co-founder Rolf Monteiro, Frontier Car Group (FCG), and Intudo Ventures. The company faces competition from regional automotive marketplaces such as Carro, Carmudi, and Carsome. In February it announced a $10 million investment from FCG, and it has now received a further $30 million commitment to be channeled over the next two years to build scale and capture market share. Management changes include the appointment of Johnny Widodo as CEO, who joins from payments platform Ovo and will oversee expansion, operations, dealer support, partnerships, and new lines of business. BeliMobilGue operates a used-car sales platform that begins with an online price estimation and, if accepted, a one-hour in-person inspection attended by its testers. After inspection the company arranges sales through its network of over 1,000 dealers and private buyers. It currently runs 30 physical testing points in Jakarta and plans to expand across Java, targeting more than 100 stations by year-end. The company is developing ancillary services aimed at dealers, including financing packages arranged with a third-party bank to help smaller dealers access capital and to finance cars listed on the platform. BeliMobilGue was founded in 2017 as a joint venture between Frontier Car Group and Intudo Ventures. It faces regional competition from players such as Carro, Carsome, and iCar Asia. BeliMobilGue was launched as a joint venture from Frontier Car Group and Intudo Ventures and operates as an intermediary that transacts used cars from private sellers to a network of dealers, showrooms and corporate buyers. The company provides guarantees based on a 300-point inspection and allows buyers an hour to inspect vehicles before purchase. It focuses on serving dealers rather than selling direct to consumers, citing dealer demand and lower go-to-market cost. BeliMobilGue currently concentrates on the Greater Jakarta area, where it says nearly 60% of Indonesia's vehicles are located, and reports 17 inspection locations with plans to triple that number in 2018. Management projects significant market opportunity in Jakarta — roughly 170,000 cars transacted per month — noting that capturing 1% of that market would equate to $10 million in GMV per month. The startup says it will expand beyond Jakarta only after ensuring high service quality, and competes with players such as iCar Asia, Carmudi and Carro.

  • Cars45

    Led · Series A · May 2017

Cars45 operates an online-to-offline platform that provides free online quotes, multi-point inspections at physical centers, pricing, and a digital service history for pre-owned autos. Owners can schedule inspections at one of Cars45’s 13 inspection centers in Nigeria and receive payment within 45 minutes if they accept an offer. The company currently sells acquired vehicles to a private network of pre-verified buyers and derives most revenue from fees charged to that network. Cars45 says it has been actively buying and selling cars since launching but the CEO would not disclose valuation, volume, or revenue figures. Management plans to use the platform to build additional revenue streams such as inspection services, financing, and online auto research similar to Kelly’s Bluebook. The team was co-founded in 2016 by Etop Ikpe, Iyamu Mohammed, Sujay Tyle, and Peter Lindholm and is focused on scaling the model across other African cities in the longer term.
