Subsense is building a bidirectional brain-computer interface that uses engineered nanoparticles, delivered nasally to cross the blood-brain barrier, paired with proprietary hardware and signal-processing software. The platform is designed to capture and stimulate neural signals with higher temporal and spatial resolution than surgically implanted electrodes while avoiding the risks, costs, and accessibility barriers of invasive procedures. Recent R&D milestones include advances in nanoparticle chemistry, in vitro stimulation, magnetic signal transduction, and neural decoding algorithms. The company has opened a new laboratory and engineering facility in Palo Alto and maintains research collaborations across North America and Europe. Future plans focus on in vivo biosafety studies, next-generation nanoparticle design, and hardware miniaturization to ready the technology for clinical translation and large-scale use. To date, Subsense has raised $27 million in venture capital funding, including the latest $10 million infusion, underscoring growing investor interest in non-surgical neurotech approaches.
