  Scoot Networks operates a fleet of shared, smartphone-activated electric motor scooters and mini cars in San Francisco. Rides are offered for $4 per trip and the scooters are mopeds that do not require a motorcycle license. The service is used by thousands of people every month across San Francisco; riders have traveled over 1,000,000 zero-emission miles to date. Led by Founder & CEO Michael Keating, the company recently closed a new round of financing of undisclosed amount. Pricing is targeted at short trips — up to $5 per hour or $10 per weekday commute — with a $10 sign‑up fee; each scooter includes a helmet and rider insurance and requires no specialty driver’s license. Scooters are battery powered, travel roughly 25 miles per charge, cost about $0.18 to fully charge, and emit under 2% of the CO2 per mile of a typical car. The company enforces geographic limits (San Francisco only) via GPS tracking, provides orientation for new users, and plans to expand locations beyond SOMA based on demand. The service emphasizes efficiency and short‑range urban transport as an alternative to cars and transit.
