Sternum builds embedded security that can be integrated at manufacture or retrofitted into IoT devices to bring actionable intelligence and active mitigation directly on-device. Its technology claims to identify attacker fingerprints in real time and prevent both known and unknown exploitations, and has been applied to devices ranging from routers and smart toys to medical devices and critical infrastructure. Sternum says it can embed protection into legacy code, including code written as far back as 2013. The company is led by CEO and co-founder Natali Tshuva, who previously worked as a software developer in Unit 8200. Sternum currently employs 20 people and plans to grow headcount to about 60. The company will use the new funding for research and development, platform advancement, and hiring. Headquartered in Tel Aviv, Sternum offers an embedded integrity verification technology (EIV) that verifies apps have not been maliciously altered and an advanced detection system (ADS) for real-time threat detection. Its EIV detects code vulnerabilities to prevent attacks before they are exploited, while ADS enables companies to respond to attacks as they occur. The company focuses on protecting the exploitation stage of attacks rather than attempting to patch every vulnerability on a device. Founder and CEO Natali Tshuva drew on her background as a security researcher who discovered vulnerabilities in Linux, Android and other embedded systems. Earlier this year Sternum was first with a fix for the Ripple20 vulnerabilities that affected millions of IoT devices. The company recently closed a $6.5M Series A, supporting its efforts to scale deployment of its platform.
