Welcome Pickups is an Athens, Greece-based travel company offering a personalized travel experience. It operates in 100 destinations across 50 countries and launched 33 new destinations in 2022, working with over 2,000 travel partners. The company plans to reach 400 destinations by end of 2024. Led by CEO Alex Trimis, Welcome Pickups raised €5.3M and intends to use the funds to accelerate geographic reach, improve customer experience, and develop new products. Welcome Pickups offers a range of in-destination travel services starting at the point of pickup and extending through transfers, travel products, things to do, and destination information. Launched in Greece in 2015 and based in Athens, the company uses airport transfers as a gateway to deliver a more holistic travel experience and is building an in-destination travel dataset to enable personalization. In 2018 the startup serviced over 400,000 travellers across 32 destinations and estimated it would welcome over 1 million travellers in 2019; it employs about 60 people, mainly in Athens and Barcelona. Welcome Pickups also works with hotels and short-stay providers to help personalise guest experiences and optimise operations using its data. The company plans to expand product offerings, grow its destination network, add travel-industry partners such as cruise lines and airlines, and enhance customer experience with a traveller app.
