    E-magy develops a nanoscale porous silicon material intended to increase the storage capacity of lithium-ion batteries versus current industry standards. The material is engineered to contain silicon swelling within nanopores, addressing the expansion problem when silicon is used in battery anodes. E-magy says the technology enables higher energy density, which can reduce weight and size of EV battery packs and also benefit smartphones, wearables and laptops. The company plans to use new funds to transition from its pilot facility to a higher-capacity next-generation production line to meet growing market demand. It also intends to grow its engineering team, adding battery scientists and application engineers to support customers. E-magy reported encouraging technical results, including completing 500 battery cycles in late 2022 with silicon as the only active anode material. The recent financing involves industrial and impact investors, positioning the company for scale-up toward commercial production. E-magy designs and manufactures a proprietary "nano-sponge" or nano-porous silicon material intended to increase lithium-ion battery energy density by about 40%, shortening charge times and extending range. The technology targets automotive battery makers and the broader mobility and energy-storage markets, including e-bikes, scooters, drones, computers, medical devices and grid storage. The founding team — CEO Casper Peeters, COO Bert Kraaijveld and CTO Axel Schönecker — leverage over 20 years of silicon crystallisation experience. The company is scaling production, preparing a new facility in the Netherlands that it expects to start producing in 2023 and boost annual capacity to thousands of tons per year. Recent financing will fund production scale-up, qualification programs, team expansion and facility preparations.
