Pleco Therapeutics is a clinical-stage specialty biopharmaceutical company developing patented Plecoid™ therapies—chelating agents designed to remove toxic metals within cancer cells and alter protein expression in the tumour microenvironment. Its lead product, PTX-061, is being developed to improve the effectiveness of chemotherapy in patients with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML). The company intends to complete PTX-061’s regulatory dossier and aims for submission to the FDA and EMA as early as 2024. Pleco also plans to accelerate preclinical work in other indications such as small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). The company recently expanded by incorporating Pleco Therapeutics USA, Inc. in Newark, New Jersey and appointed Michael Stalhamer as President and VP Product Development and Regulatory Affairs. Pleco is led by CEO Ivo Timmermans and has strengthened its balance sheet with a €17.3M Series A financing comprised of equity, government funding, and R&D project financing.
