Geenee provides a mobile software platform that enables brands and agencies to engage audiences by allowing consumers to recognize, engage with, and shop the physical world. Its patented, browser-based image and video recognition technology lets portable devices trigger rich, contextual content and e-commerce at the moment of inspiration. The company works with global brands and agencies, including Warner Bros., Publicis and Miller Lite. Geenee is led by CEO Sandro Christen. The company intends to use the new funding to accelerate its go-to-market strategy and introduce additional product offerings. The article does not disclose revenue or user metrics. Geenee provides a way for users to shop Instagram posts by taking a snapshot, uploading it to the Geenee app, and selecting items identified via image-recognition software. The system parses each item in a post to determine brand, SKU, and purchase links, and hooks into affiliate programs to route buyers to retail portals. Influencers register once so Geenee can scan their profiles and inventory items across posts; the company currently has more than 200 influencers, over 5,000 brands, and millions of items in its system. Geenee focuses initially on the fashion vertical but the founder says the company sees expansion opportunities across other verticals. The platform shares affiliate revenue with influencers and takes a cut of sales made through the service. Geenee’s tech can identify unavailable items and suggest similar alternatives when exact matches aren’t purchasable. The product targets the gap between inspiration on social platforms and seamless commerce by enabling purchases at the moment of user inspiration.
