- Skyport Systems
Participated · Series C · Mar 2016
Skyport Systems offers a hardware and software stack that lets enterprises host services in a hardened appliance with embedded security features, isolating each virtual machine in its own secure compartment. The company says this approach provides stronger protection than standard solutions that rely only on dedicated security co-processors, and claims it can do so without performance compromises. Skyport emphasizes ease of deployment, saying its service can be up and running in 30 minutes. Customers include government entities, institutions of higher education, enterprises and SMEs seeking to safeguard critical IT assets. The company raised a $30 million Series C and has now raised a total of $67 million, and plans to use the new funding to expand sales and marketing and accelerate R&D programs. Skyport Systems publicly launched the SkySecure System, a hybrid hardware/software platform designed to enforce security policies from firmware through software. The product uses a three-layer model: a turn-key secure hardware server that verifies firmware and software checksums and records high-resolution motherboard photos for supply-chain verification; hardware-enforced compartmentalization and whitelisting; and SkySecure Center, a tamper-proof log and policy data warehouse with dashboards and analytics. The company spent more than two years developing the product and initially focused on making design customers successful before scaling to a wider audience. Skyport expects customers to adopt devices first in sensitive parts of their infrastructure and expand deployment over time. Pricing is offered as a software-as-a-service model, billed monthly but invoiced annually, and sold via a typical enterprise sales process.
