Bamboo Energy develops a SaaS platform to enable demand aggregators and flexible consumers (‘flexumers’) to participate in and manage flexibility markets. The company was created in Barcelona in 2020 as a spin-off of the Institute for Energy Research of Catalonia (IREC). It targets aggregators, industries, tertiary buildings, electric vehicle fleets and other energy storage assets as sources of flexibility. Bamboo Energy has a five-year strategic plan to invest €15–20 million to build the software needed for wider flexibility-market deployment. The startup says five potential demand aggregators are already testing its technology and expects to surpass 100 aggregator customers by 2025. Management forecasts it will double its business annually to reach more than €5 million of recurring software revenue within five years, citing a market expected to grow at over 20% annually.
