  Pillar Technologies is a New York-based company that builds sensor-packed monitoring systems for construction sites to measure environmental conditions. Its devices monitor temperature, pressure, humidity, smoke, dust and other metrics and serve as an early warning system for leaks, freezes, fire and mold. General contractors and insurers use Pillar’s data management to monitor sites and predict when failures might occur and to enable potential policy optimization. Deployments typically run six to eighteen months during the fit-out period after a building is wrapped, and Pillar is working in eight states across 15 job sites. Current hardware is sensor-packed boxes, with the company noting potential future use of low-cost cameras for additional safety monitoring. Pillar raised a $2.75 million seed round and says it will use the funds to expand its workforce and scale manufacturing. Martha Notaras of XL Innovate will take a seat on the company’s board following the financing. Pillar Technologies is a Boston-based construction site risk management platform that deploys on-site sensors to monitor dangerous environmental conditions. Its sensors detect fire outbreaks, high humidity exposure and mold growth—conditions that can cause revenue loss during building. The platform provides general contractors with real-time information and alerts notifying them of destructive conditions before damage occurs. Pillar also applies predictive analytics to drive process changes aimed at preventing damage. The company secured $425K in seed funding from 1517 Fund, Insure.VC and angel investors Anil Jha and Sam Altschuler. Led by Alex Schwarzkopf, Sean Iacobone and Matt Joyal, Pillar is expanding its testing program and will seek additional contractors starting in November.
