Solar Junction is a San Jose, California-based developer of high-efficiency III-V multi-junction solar cells for the concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) market. Its cells are built on proprietary ASLAM materials and target high efficiency in CPV applications. Founded in 2007 by CEO Jim Weldon, the company focuses on scaling advanced cell technology into manufacturing. Solar Junction recently closed a $19.2M Series D round to support that scale-up. The company intends to use the funding to scale up manufacturing of its cells. Backers in the round included New Enterprise Associates, Advanced Technology Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson and IQE. Solar Junction is a San Jose, CA–based developer of high-efficiency III-V multi-junction solar cells targeting the concentrated photovoltaic market. The company designs multi-junction cells using dilute nitride compounds to achieve higher efficiencies. It closed a $13.33M Series C financing to advance its technology and commercialization efforts. Solar Junction plans to use the funds to improve multi-junction cell efficiencies and to proceed with customer sampling activities. Separately, the company was named a recipient of a $3M PV Incubator subcontract from the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Lab that is currently under negotiation.
