The company was co-founded by Dr. Simon Rittmann, Dr. Guenther Bochmann, and Dr. Gregor Tegl and is based in Vienna, Austria. Arkeon Biotechnologies is a Vienna-based foodtech startup that uses gas fermentation with archaea to convert CO2 directly into food ingredients. Its proprietary technology produces all 20 amino acids for the human diet in a single production step. The process is independent of agricultural land and can be applied without geographical constraints, offering a pathway to food production without traditional crop dependencies. Arkeon says its products are carbon-negative because more CO2 is consumed than produced, and the ingredients are 100% vegan and GMO-free. Target applications include clean-label ingredients for plant-based foods, nutrition products, beverages, and cultivated meat cell-culture media. The company was founded with support from the Berlin-based company builder EVIG and is led by Co-Founder and Managing Director Dr. Gregor Tegl.
