SocialSafe, co-founded by Julian Ranger, offers a Mac/Windows application that downloads and archives content from social networks including Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, RSS and Viadeo. The resulting archive is searchable, viewable via a calendar, and surfaces insights such as who users most interact with. Backups are stored locally only on a user’s PC, giving a privacy advantage while leaving cloud backup optional. The company has long planned to add cloud sync features but notes running its own cloud backup service could breach many social networks' Terms of Service. With the new funding SocialSafe intends to release a mobile app, add “Device Independence” personal‑cloud support (SkyDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive) for cross‑device access, and launch features called “Collections” and PDF export. The founder has been spending time in the U.S., pursuing partnerships and a potential Stateside push, and the company is positioned to pick up users as competitors like Backify wind down consumer backup options. SocialSafe provides a private digital library that backs up users' social media activity, including history, contacts, postings and interactions from networks such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Led by Julian Ranger, the product lets users search their archived data, consolidate comments, and re-post or upload the same picture across multiple social networks from one place. The company emphasizes user control and personal archiving of social content. SocialSafe is working to add new social networks and additional features to its service. Financially, the company recently raised £295K in funding to support its development. Backers included Marco Sodi and two business angels from the South West Angel and Investor Network (SWAIN).
