- Joko
Participated · Equity · Jul 2019
Joko is a Paris-based fintech founded in 2018 that automatically gives users cashback on online and in-store purchases by connecting bank cards or via a Chrome extension. The app supports all banks and uses PSD2-enabled open banking to detect partner-brand transactions without additional user action. More than 500,000 users have joined, over €1 million has been distributed in cashback, and Joko has analyzed over €3 billion of transactions. Over 1,000 retailers (including Carrefour, H&M, Asos, Apple and Nike) participate, and Joko reports users open the app about four times per week. The company says merchants see lower acquisition costs and higher basket size and frequency when using Joko. Joko plans to expand across Europe and to double its workforce by the end of the year. Joko provides a universal loyalty program that converts users' credit or debit cards into loyalty cards through a mobile app. After securely connecting the app to their bank, customers automatically accumulate reward points when using their usual cards at dozens of large retailers and receive immediate post-purchase notifications. Points can be redeemed for gift cards or converted into donations, and an AI layer personalizes offers based on users' habits. After a few months of beta the product was adopted by tens of thousands of people and the company has signed several dozen partners, including Printemps, Fnac, Franprix, Birchbox, Heetch and Cityscoot. Joko plans to use the €1.6M first funding to recruit developers and data scientists and to accelerate product development. The startup was founded in 2018 and operates from Station F with a team of fifteen.
