CloudRail offers an SDK that bundles similar integrations (for example, a storage bundle with Box, Dropbox and OneDrive) so developers can embed APIs with fewer lines of code and try integrations via its marketplace. The platform includes an analytics page that lets providers track performance in the community. Many integration services are offered mostly free to developers; CloudRail charges the companies offering APIs for access to the marketplace and developer community. Co-founder Felix Kollmar says the team built the product after solving their own internal API integration problems and realizing the pain was widespread. The company reports that 50–60 million end users have touched the platform through its integrations. Headquartered in Germany, CloudRail has signaled plans to expand into the Industrial Internet of Things where it sees growing overlap between IT and industrial integrations. CloudRail provides a "universal interface" that lets developers write to a single API which connects to and translates data for an expanding list of IoT devices and related services. The company performs data conversion on the client side so data never passes through CloudRail’s servers, which it says improves security and scalability. Developers can also author their own CloudRail-powered translations and share or sell them to the CloudRail community. CloudRail originally applied its technology to cloud storage providers such as Dropbox, Google Drive and Box, but is now focused on the larger IoT market. The startup raised a modest €540k seed investment to support this push into IoT. CloudRail is based in Mannheim, Germany.
