FarmWorks provides smallholder farmers with farm inputs, pest control services, equipment on loan (such as drip irrigation kits), training on good agricultural practices, and purchases their produce for export or local sales. It operates an out-grower scheme of more than 2,000 smallholder farmers and runs 16 collection centers in two counties in Kenya's central region, selling about 400 tons of produce per month. The company has converted its own production farms into training centers and introduces higher-value crops like sugar snaps and snow peas to boost farmer incomes. Founders Yi Li and Peter Muthee launched FarmWorks in 2020. With the new funding it plans to strengthen data analytics and deploy AI to enhance production and to influence planting and lending decisions. It also plans to expand its network of contract farmers into additional regions within Kenya. Financially, the recent pre-Series A round raised $4.1M and brought total equity funding to $5.6M.
