Maple is a Toronto-based telemedicine startup that connects Canadians with a variety of healthcare providers through phone, tablet, or computer and claims to serve over one million Canadians. The company was founded in 2015 and was created to address long wait times for accessing healthcare. Maple has worked with health organizations and retailers to expand virtual care access; it and Shoppers Drug Mart jointly facilitated nearly 20,000 virtual care visits during the COVID-19 pandemic and made services available in more than 160 Shoppers Drug Mart locations in British Columbia. Maple said it will use the funds to expand its network, team, and portfolio of technologies for hospitals, governments, employers, and insurers. Early in the pandemic Maple provided online COVID-19 screenings and offered virtual clinic software free to Ontario and British Columbia physicians; it has since ended those free offerings but continues to work with health organizations to facilitate COVID-19 testing. Maple is a Toronto-based telemedicine platform that gives Canadians online access to medical providers across specialties such as dermatology, psychotherapy, and lactation consulting. Its product connects users to roughly 400 health care practitioners via messaging and video and is used in hospital workflows for ER diversion and discharge planning. The company says it has included 400,000 Canadians across its business and consumer platforms and reported revenue growth of six times in a record year. Maple plans to use new funding to expand its hospital and home care arms, deepen strategic partnerships (including with SE Health), and invest in product development and integrations such as with Dot Health. The company aims to triple its Toronto office headcount over the next 24 months. Corporate partners cited in the article include Morneau Shepell, ENCON Group, and employers such as GlaxoSmithKline. Maple operates a technology platform that allows patients to connect directly with Canadian-licensed doctors by secure text or video for medical advice, diagnosis and treatment. The service provides on-demand access 24/7 from a smartphone or computer and includes prescription capability. Launched just over a year prior to the article, Maple expanded its network to service eight provinces and two territories across Canada. The platform had nearly 20,000 patients and more than 100 Canadian licensed doctors on it at the time of the report. Led by co-founder and CEO Dr. Brett Belchetz, the company intends to use new funding to support growth and geographic expansion. The report states the funds will be used to support Maple's continued growth.
