Medical Research Council

Polaris House, North Star Avenue, Swindon, Wiltshire, SN2 1FL, United Kingdom

Overview

At the beginning of the twentieth century, tuberculosis was one of the UK’s most urgent health problems. A royal commission, entitled The Royal Commission Appointed to Inquire into the Relations of Human and Animal Tuberculosis, was set up in 1901. It aimed to find out whether tuberculosis in animals and humans was the same disease and whether animals and humans could infect each other. This page describes how, by 1919, the Commission had evolved into the independent Medical Research Council.

    Led · Grant · Aug 2015

Brainomix is a University of Oxford spin-out that builds AI medical-imaging software, most notably its fully automated Brainomix 360 Stroke platform for acute stroke assessment and its 360 e-Lung technology that uses CT biomarkers to detect and monitor fibrosing lung disease. The company’s solutions are FDA-cleared, deployed in more than 20 countries, and aim to increase endovascular thrombectomy rates while reducing treatment delays. With offices in the UK, Ireland and the USA, Brainomix already maintains U.S. operations and plans to accelerate hospital roll-outs there. The firm positions its products as workflow-integrated tools that deliver consistent, point-of-care support regardless of local expertise. New capital will be directed toward bolstering customer support, speeding product enhancements, and widening U.S. market penetration. Brainomix cites rigorous clinical validation and real-world evidence underpinning its technology. To date, the company has attracted backing from health- and deep-tech investors focused on AI and life-science innovation.
